In light of Gov. Doug Ducey’s emergency declaration and subsequent curfew, the Prescott Downtown Partnership has opted to reschedule this week’s Summer Concert Series and other events at the Yavapai County Superior Courthouse Plaza.
“While we are anxious for the start of live music at the Plaza, PDP has decided to move the launch of the Summer Concert Series back a week to accommodate the governor’s curfew,” said PDP President Sheri Shaw. “Join us next week for fun, uplifting music under the trees.”
The Goodwin Street Gang, led by Prescott resident and El Gato Azul owner Barry Barbe, will kick off the series at 6:30 p.m. on June 9. The Drew Hall and Anton Teschner Acoustic Duo, performing Latin and flamenco fusion, will follow on June 11 at 6:30 p.m.
“Live music is a great stress reliever and our downtown businesses, many of which have been shuttered since March, look forward to welcoming residents into their stores before and after the concerts,” PDP Executive Director MJ Smith said. “Small businesses have taken the brunt of the fallout from COVID 19 restrictions and this is an opportunity to show them that we support their efforts to stay open.”
PDP met with Yavapai County officials, Yavapai County Community Health Services and the City of Prescott to determine best practices for moving forward with the popular summertime activity, Smith said.
“With beautiful spring weather and people yearning to get out, we are seeing increased activity at the Plaza on any given day, but we want to ensure we are mitigating as many concerns as possible,” she said. “While outdoor events are inherently safer than indoor gatherings, we strongly suggest people follow the guidelines posted by the CDC and respect the safety measures others are taking to stay healthy.”
Those in higher risk populations or those who are uncomfortable participating is social gatherings can live stream the music on the PDP Facebook page.
“We have added the benefit of watching the performances on Facebook to allow those who are hesitant about venturing out the opportunity to catch the amazing performances we have scheduled,” Smith said. “Log on and enjoy the entertainment from the safety and security of your own homes.”
